Hey there🙋♀️ !! My name is Pavandeep Kaur. I am a daring young girl on a quest to learn more about technology. I am the only girl Engineer in my family, who earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science with an emphasis on IOT (Internet of Things). I am pursuing Masters in Computer Science with specialization of Cloud Computing. I, the only girl in my family, who plays with sensors instead of dolls, who loves coding tutorials than make-up tutorials.
Yes, I am a tech girl (woman).
I have done all the things I wanted to do (blessed with the supportive parents💙).
2 Months back, I was selected for the role of SOFTWARE ENGINEER in MARVELL INDIA company, and I had a question in my mind whether to go in TECH field or not. I discussed with my father who is a Mechanical Engineer in AGIS.
The words were "Go and grab this opportunity my girl, TECH needs WOMEN".
WHY SO FEW WOMEN WORK IN TECHNOLOGY?
The gender stereotype of 'boys being better at science' is the primary cause for the low proportion of women in technology.
Girls outperform boys academically in high school. However, girls who pursue computer science at the university level are outnumbered by males " 82 percent vs 17 percent " one of the biggest gender discrepancies in academic disciplines.
According to Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's COO, "no sector or country can attain its full potential unless women reach their entire potential." This is especially true in science and technology, where women with an excess of potential face a shortage of opportunities.'
Here are the reasons more women are needed in tech:
- We must make gender diversity a corporate priority in order to help a firm reach its full potential.
- Women think differently than men.
It's the time to focus on the next generation of IT talent and ensure gender equality exists for the benefit of everybody. This includes more flexible working arrangements, more women in leadership roles, and greater encouragement for girls and boys to explore their natural interests at a young age.
It will be a difficult battle, but the world requires it.
